Destinations: Huntington Dog Beach

Everybody's gone surfing -- even dogs at HB's Dog Beach!

It's a scenic stretch of sand accessible at the base of a hill parallel to Pacific Coast Highway where you can park.

They call it Huntington Dog Beach

Long before it was known as Dog Beach, this Huntington City beach which was the northernmost City beach (before Sunset Beach was annexed) was known as a slightly remote location locals liked to go to get away from the massive crowds next to the Pier you'll often find during summer months.

Today this beach has gained a reputation as a dog-friendly, off leash place to take Fido for a beach outing. Social dogs are welcome and aggressive dogs are advised to be kept away from others and on leash, for sure. However, there have been altercations with more aggressive pets -- and even some humans have been bit.

Still, this Huntington Dog Beach was a surfing and sunbathing beach long before the dogs were allowed. So today, you will find surfers continuing to arrive and head for the water from this spot.

Special events include an annual Surfing Dog competition, So Cal Corgi Dog meetups and other pet-oriented celebrations.

Sports Photography

Most beach sports photographers don't make a full time living in the trade, but they do have fun. Some of the best surf photographers, for instance, are surfers, themselves.

People Pictures

Everyone can take sunsets. Stock agencies have far too many. People pictures for editorial and advertising are in demand. If you can see a face, get a photo release!
